Free for Members

Program Details

A health care directive is essential to ensure your medical wishes are respected if you're unable to speak for yourself. Does your directive clearly outline the care you want during a medical emergency? Do you know your rights regarding hospital treatments or what terms like “heroic measures” and “DNR (Do Not Resuscitate)” orders mean? Join us for an informative presentation on Advance Care Planning (ACP) in Manitoba. This session will provide valuable insights and practical tools to help you navigate the complexities of creating a health care directive. Topics include: -Legal distinctions between a Health Care Directive (HCD) and Power of Attorney. -Your rights as a patient in making medical decisions. -How to choose and empower your health care proxy (substitute decision maker). -Step-by-step guidance on completing a Health Care Directive. -Understanding key terms like “heroic measures” and “artificial means.” -Review of the Dying With Dignity Canada ACP workbook and HCD form. -What to do—and avoid—once your directive is finalised. -Don’t miss this opportunity to gain clarity, take control of your medical future, and access resources to guide you every step of the way. FEE: Free for Patrons SCHEDULE: 2 Mondays, March 10 and 17 from 10:00 to 11:00 AM FORMAT: This is an online event. A link will be emailed to participants one day before the event. PRESENTER Dorothy Stephens is the Advance Care Planning educator for Dying with Dignity.
